One Night I did an experiment
A Thursday night, to be precise.
Tonight.
I texted eight of my friends.
I waited.
Nothing.
I said to myself, “Huh.
Surely within ninety minutes, they will reply. Some of them.“
I went for a walk.
On the walk, I casually, not casually, thought about the ninety minutes going by.
I felt the steady stillness of the phone in my pocket.
I thought about my life.
I wondered who cared about me.
Nevermind these people being busy for this particular hour and a half!
Tonight is important.
Maybe ‘cuz I’ve had some whiskey —
That can highlight urgency
And despondency.
Accelerate things.
I considered my longing. The long week, almost over. The yearning for understanding.
Release.
Laugher.
Attention.
