About Me, Anita

Photo of me. Taken by a friend.

I am the sunshine on my shoulders.

I am my own best friend and my own worst enemy. I am getting better at being more of the former.

I am 45 years old and I live in Bend, Oregon. I hope to live somewhere warmer someday. I live here for now, because it’s near my sister and her kids, and they are like my family. There are mountains and trees and lakes and rivers here. The sky is often bright blue and the scent of Juniper is in the air.

I care passionately about reversing racial injustice. White privilege exists and it must be exposed/expunged/stopped. This is the work of a lifetime. The work of lifetimes.

I do have a cat. She gives me joy. I had no idea how comforting a pet could be until I caved and got her 3 1/2 years ago. She goes by Bella. But the truth is she doesn’t answer to anything other than the shaking of cat food in a plastic container. That’s not even true. She always greets me when I come home and makes her piggy purrs when I pick her up. She literally makes purrs that sound like a pig grunting. It’s adorable.

I am a doctor. I should have become a screenwriter or a film director or a jewelry maker. Please don’t tell me there’s still time to do that. I know that. I tried. 10 years ago I left my doctor job and moved to LA to try to start a new life. It didn’t work out.
